Pop singer Britney Spears will be appointed a new conservator. Her father has stepped down from the role, according to multiple reports.

Jodi Montgomery, the singer’s care manager, was appointed as her temporary conservator. Britney Spears’s father and former conservator, Jamie Spears, made the appointment. Jamie Spears was asked to relinquish conservatorship temporarily due to health reasons, according to ET Online. The arrangement, according to court documents, was due to start as early as Sept. 9 and would last until Jan. 20, 2020.

“It is for the best interest of the conservative for Ms. Montgomery to be appointed temporary conservator, without delay, for this period,” the document read, ET Online reported.

US Weekly reported that Montgomery would have the same access that Jamie Spears did, and she accepted the temporary role that would last until Jan. 20, 2020. Montgomery would have the power to limit and restrict visitor access to Spears; employ new caretakers for the singer on a daily basis, and communicate with medical staff on the singer’s behalf.

The news outlet also reported that Montgomery would, like Jamie Spears; have access to the pop singer’s medical records; and the power to file restraining orders for and on behalf of Britney Spears.

The court order stated that though Montgomery only has the duty temporarily until Jan. 20, 2020, the contract could be extended should there be a need, US Weekly reported.

Since 2008, Jamie Spears had been the singer’s co-conservator, along with Andrew Wallet, until March 2019 when Wallet resigned. From then on, he had been his daughter’s sole conservator, according to ET Online.

Jamie Spears moved to relinquish his conservatorship temporarily due to health reasons. He had suffered a life-threatening health crisis back in 2018. He suffered a ruptured colon and was rushed to the hospital, ET Online reported. According to the earlier reporting by the news outlet, Jamie Spears almost lost his life due to the incident.

ET Online reported that Jamie Lynn Spears, Britney’s sister, updated fans regarding their father’s condition. She wrote, “Thank you to everyone who reached out to our family and for all of your prayers. All go you have been there for us through so much, and we truly appreciate each of you!!”

The pop singer also took an indefinite hiatus to take care of her father, putting her show in Las Vegas on hold until her father recovered. She took to Instagram to inform her fans of her hiatus.

“It’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make. A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time,” the pop singer wrote.
