Best Buy on Thursday recalled roughly 772,000 Insignia air fryers and air fryer ovens in the United States and Canada after receiving nearly 100 reports over safety issues, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced.

The agency said in a statement that the electronics retailer has received 68 reports from U.S. consumers and 36 reports from Canadian consumers that the affected products might overheat and pose a potential fire and burn hazard.

The safety reports included air fryers and air fryer ovens catching fire, burning, or melting.

“These include seven reports of minor property damage and two reports of injuries, including an injury to a child’s leg,” it stated.

The recall involves Insignia Digital Air Fryers, Insignia Analog Air Fryers, and Insignia Digital Air Fryer Ovens, according to the CPSC. All the cooking devices were manufactured in China.

The agency said the products were sold between November 2018 and February 2022 at Best Buy stores nationwide or online.

People who are still in the possession of any of the affected products are advised to stop using them and return them to Best Buy for a refund.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled air fryers and air fryer ovens and return the product to Best Buy for a refund in the form of a credit,” the CPSC said.

Best Buy said workers are trying to contact all registered customers directly to arrange returns. Upon return, consumers can get a credit of $50 or the amount on the purchase receipt if it was higher, noting that consumers aren’t required to have a purchase receipt to get the refund.
