Mica Alcantara’s boyfriend Richmond Ulap has just presented her with a romantic bouquet with a rather pungent aroma.

The petals are made of bacon, not roses.

“Flowers wither, but with this she will have a full stomach,” explains Ulap.

The restaurant in downtown Manila thinks it has created the perfect Valentine’s gift, a bacon rose bouquet with bacon-related messages like “Nothing says I love you more than let’s get fat together.”

Restaurant spokesperson Bea Camille Santos explains the concept.

“You don’t have to buy two things, like for example flowers and then buy chocolates for the girls. It’s something you can eat. The buds are edible. So it’s the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day. Why get rotting flowers when you can have a delectable fried meat.”

“For them (customers) they find it interesting. It’s very unique, it’s not the typical rose, it’s non-traditional, non cliché. It’s something new. You know people like novelties, people like bacon, so it makes sense that people will love bacon roses,” Santos adds.

For a fee of 44 US dollars this edible rose-shaped bacon bouquet can be delivered anywhere in Manila.

Ace Capellan also surprised his girlfriend with a delivery of dozen of rose-shaped bacon blooms at their office on Friday.

“I am not really a flower person so I rather not receive any (ordinary flowers). ” says Villarruz.
