NY Assemblyman Ron Kim Hosts Orphaned Students From South Korea

Flushing, NY – Today, New York State Assemblymember Ron Kim invited nearly a dozen orphaned middle school and high school students from South Korea to visit his office. They were visiting the US for a Leadership Training Conference planned by Goahead Mission, a non-profit group dedicated to the welfare of parentless children throughout the world. The Reverend Sang-Cho Rey, President of Goahead Mission, had previously contacted the Assemblyman’s office to express the children’s interest in meeting a Korean American elected official during their trip to America. Assemblyman Kim’s office was able to coordinate a time for the meeting at his district office, and he and his wife, Alison, were there to greet and welcome them to his district.

Assemblyman Ron Kim said: “As Americans, we believe that everyone, no matter what your background is or where you came from, deserves a fair chance at success and happiness in life. Almost all of the children who came to my office today grew up without parents, and yet they’ve worked their hardest to reach their full potential. I am proud of them for how far they have come in life, and I know the hard work and grit they have shown will lead to even greater achievements in the years to come. I thank Goahead Mission and Reverend Sang-Cho Rey for organizing today’s meeting, and commend them for their admirable commitment to helping orphans around the world.”

Alison, Assemblyman Kim’s wife, said: “We were blessed to meet so many happy and hopeful faces today, and for the chance to speak to them about their lives and futures. It was eye-opening to hear them speak to us about their experiences, hopes, and dreams, and we look forward to witnessing their future accomplishments and growth.

Reverend Sang Cho Rey, President of Goahead Mission, said: “We are grateful for this wonderful opportunity to meet with Assemblyman Kim. Today, the kids who came had a rare and invaluable opportunity to meet a superb role model in the field of government, one whom they can look up to and learn from in this crucial point in their lives. All children in this world are deserving of love and guidance, and it is my hope that this trip, and especially this morning’s meeting, will help shape their lives for the better in the years to come.”
