Pinnacle View recently invited U.S. and Chinese experts to discuss the topic of hypersonic weapons and the defection of Chinese Communist Party personnel. U.S. military research experts included Rick Fisher, senior fellow at the International Assessment and Strategic Center; and Grant Newsham, senior fellow at the Center for Security Policy. The two Chinese guests included Gao Guangjun, a former top Chinese criminal investigation expert; and Shi Shan, senior editor and chief writer of The Epoch Times.

On Jan. 23, 2022, the Daily Express broke the news that the British intelligence agency, MI6, had assisted a Chinese missile expert in escaping from Beijing to the United States late last year. The report said that this expert played a key role in China’s development of hypersonic weapons. His defection could help the United States and the UK strengthen their defense programs against hypersonic missiles, and it could take up to two years for the Chinese Communist Party to undo the effects of the intelligence leak.

This revelation has once again focused the world’s attention on the field of hypersonic missiles. The Chinese Communist Party has already deployed the Dongfeng-17 hypersonic missile, but what threats to the United States are posed by this weapon? What is the status of hypersonic weapons in the arms race between the United States and China? Why is the U.S. behind China and Russia in the development of hypersonic weapons? And how will it defend against hypersonic missiles?

In this episode, two U.S. experts discuss in detail what hypersonic weapons are, why the United States has not focused on developing them, why China and Russia are temporarily ahead in the deployment of hypersonic weapons, and what measures the U.S. needs to take to counteract them.

Gao Guangjun, a former lecturer in criminal investigation at the People’s Public Security University of China and one of China’s top criminal investigation experts, experienced a real-life thrilling story of how a teacher escaped from students in China after the June 4 Incident. In this episode, Gao reveals for the first time how he escaped from under the eyes of the Chinese Communist Party, moving through 17 countries and finally escaping to the United States. He also comments on the defection of the Chinese missile expert. Shi Shan, an expert on China, explains why the Chinese Communist Party may be facing a new wave of defections.
