A Georgia 6-year-old collapsed on a baseball field and died of a sudden heart attack.
Brantley Chandler was posing for pictures in his uniform when he collapsed. Individual pictures were over and the team was preparing for a group picture when the boy fell to the ground.
Meghan Bryson told WTVC that her son was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the birth defect affects normal blood flow through the heart.

“As the baby develops during pregnancy, the left side of the heart does not form correctly. Hypoplastic left heart syndrome is one type of congenital heart defect. Congenital means present at birth. Because a baby with this defect needs surgery or other procedures soon after birth, HLHS is considered a critical congenital heart defect,” it stated.
Each year, about 1 out of every 4,344 babies born in the United States is born with the rare defect. The causes of such heart defects are not known.
While surgeries can help strengthen babies born with the defect, the babies are not cured.
“Infants with hypoplastic left heart syndrome may have lifelong complications. They will need regular follow-up visits with a cardiologist (a heart doctor) to monitor their progress. If the hypoplastic left heart syndrome defect is very complex, or the heart becomes weak after the surgeries, a heart transplant may be needed. Infants who receive a heart transplant will need to take medicines for the rest of their lives to prevent their body from rejecting the new heart,” the agency stated.

Bryson said in a Facebook post that the death was a shock and she could not have prepared for it.
“It’s going to be hard for years to do anything but especially these next couple days. I seriously don’t know what to do or how to live,” she wrote.
“I love u Beba!!! You are a true hero! You fought ur own internal battle til u couldn’t do it no more. Most people didn’t even know ur daily struggle. U put up a very big fight and proved ur drs wrong so many times. U amazed me everyday. U were the strongest little man I knew. I bet u can run so much faster using ur blazing speed right now. U will always be mamas baby. I miss u sooo much and can’t wait to see u again one day soon! Your my everything B!”

In Brantley’s obituary, the family wrote that the boy was in first grade at Chickamauga Elementary School.
“He loved playing baseball and was the catcher for the Rock Spring Mustangs. When he was not playing baseball, Brantley could be found enjoying what the outdoors had to offer. He loved Hunting, fishing, spending time with his hunting dog ‘Boss,’ riding four wheelers, and playing in the mud getting his boots dirty!” they wrote.
“Brantley could ask more questions than anyone in a minute, he loved tractors and heavy equipment, and he attended Faith Baptist Church in Ringgold. He will be truly missed by his family and all of the many people he touched.”
The funeral was planned for over the weekend and Brantley was going to be buried in the Chickamauga City Cemetery.
