Police have released photos featuring suspects involved in the Aug. 28 shooting and “attempted robbery or carjacking” of Washington Commanders running backbencher Brian Robinson Jr.
Low-quality surveillance images of two unidentified suspects were released by D.C. police, showing a teenage boy dressed in a red jacket with a black hood, and another wearing a black jacket.
Photos of a blue sedan the two juveniles used to flee in were also released.
A Twitter post from the D.C. Police Department had earlier described the perpetrators as “two black juvenile males with shoulder length dreads, medium complexion, wearing a black or brown shirt with yellow smiley faces on it.”
A $10,000 award has been offered by the police for any information leading to their arrest and conviction.
“The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle without obtaining any property,” police said in a press release. “The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.”
Robinson, 23, underwent surgery at Medstar Washington Hospital Center and later gave an update via social media.
“Surgery went well! Thanks for the prayers! God is great!” he wrote along with a picture.
Dustin Sternbeck, a spokesman for the Metro Police Department in Washington, said officials responded to a shooting shortly before 6 p.m. in the 1,000 block of H Street NE.
Sternbeck said a firearm was recovered by police a short distance from where the incident occurred.
Ron Rivera, head coach for the Commanders, said Robinson was “in good spirits,” noting that the running back would like to thank everyone for their kind words and support.
“He wants his teammates to know he appreciates them all for reaching out and he loves them all [and] will be back soon doing what he does best,” Rivera said on Twitter.
A spokesman for the Commanders told ESPN that the team’s president, Jason Wright, as well as co-owners Dan and Tanya Snyder joined Rivera to visit Robinson at the hospital.
Rivera said Robinson now has to go through the healing process.
“Then, once he’s well enough to get out on the field, then the doctors will have to clear him obviously, and then we’ll go from there,” Rivera said, NFL.com reported. “But like I said, everything’s been very positive so far.”
In a Twitter post on Tuesday, the D.C. Police urged anyone with information regarding the incident to call (202) 727-9099. Tips can also be texted to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
